A Legacy of Innovation in Sri Lankan Printing Industry
1924-1993
Born on the 11th of August 1924, in Madampe. Mr. Samuel Peter De Silva was a man of vision, integrity, and deep family values. with his beloved wife Leelawathi De Silva by his side, he built a beautiful nurturing family of six children laying the foundation for a legacy rooted in love, resilience, and purpose.
Chitrakala Holdings (Pvt) Ltd. was founded by Mr. Samuel Peter De Silva, a late veteran of the British Army in Sri Lanka, After retiring due to an injury, he embarked on an extraordinary mission to shape the future of greeting card industry in Sri Lanka.
In the mid 1960s, Chitrakala took its first steps by importing rosaries and greeting cards from Italy. This modest start laid the foundation for what would become a printing leader.
With unwavering determination and hard work, Mr. Peter De Silva established Chitrakala's own printing press in 1972. This milestone marked the beginning of in-house production, including the creation of their own greeting cards. The company quickly became known for its innovative 3D cut cards, which were in high demand at the time.
The early 1980s, saw Mr. Peter's two sons, Mr. Priyantha and Mr. Sherman, join the business. Their fresh perspective and energy promised a bright future for Chitrakala.
Following their father's passing, Mr. Priyantha and Mr. Sherman decided to divide the thriving empire to ensure smooth operations. Mr. Priyantha continued with Chitrakala Greetings, which evolved into the present-day Chitrakala Holdings (Pvt) Ltd.
Mr. Priyantha’s marriage to Mrs. Disna in 1991 marked a transformative period for the business. Their partnership catalyzed remarkable growth and development.
In 2017, Mr. Dakshan and Ms. Thushmini joined the venture, bringing not only youthful energy but also their management skills.
